Power flushing
for central heating.
Sludge, rust and debris can affect how your heating system performs. We can assess your system and advise whether a power flush is suitable.
Need a power flush?
Power flushing circulates cleaning fluid through a central heating system to help remove sludge and other debris. Where contamination is causing a problem, cleaning may help radiators heat more evenly and improve circulation.
These symptoms can also have other causes. An assessment helps identify the right repair or cleaning method for your system.
Signs worth checking
- Boiler or pump noise, or repeated faults.
- Poor or reduced hot water temperature.
- A boiler that overheats or shuts off when hot water is needed.
- Unexpectedly high heating bills.
- Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, or radiators that do not heat.
- A system that is slow to warm up.
- Radiators that need frequent bleeding.
- Evidence of sludge or rust in the system.
How can power flushing help?
Where sludge and debris are restricting circulation, suitable cleaning may:
- Improve radiator heat output and warm-up times.
- Improve circulation and heating efficiency.
- Help reduce strain on heating components.
- Help protect the system from further contamination when followed by appropriate treatment.
Results depend on the condition of the system. Power flushing does not repair worn or damaged components, and savings or fault prevention cannot be guaranteed.
Keeping your system cleaner
After cleaning, appropriate corrosion inhibitor and ongoing maintenance can help protect the system. A magnetic filter may also help collect magnetic debris and can be cleaned during servicing.
A magnetic filter and a scale reducer have different roles. We can advise which measures are suitable for your heating system and water supply.

Existing pipework and radiators can contain sludge and debris that affect a new boiler. The system should be assessed and cleaned using a method suitable for its condition and the boiler manufacturer's instructions.
A power flush is one cleaning option; it is not automatically required for every installation. Cleaning, water treatment and warranty requirements depend on the boiler manufacturer and the installation.

Chemical cleaning and machine power flushing
Chemical cleaning and machine power flushing use different methods and scopes. The appropriate approach depends on the system, symptoms, condition and the proposed work. A cold radiator or boiler fault does not establish that a power flush is needed.
Ask which cleaning method is being quoted, the areas of the system included, any access or isolation requirements, and what checks will be completed. Cleaning may reveal an existing weakness or leak and cannot guarantee repair of worn or damaged components.
Inhibitor and magnetic filtration
Inhibitor is a protective system-water treatment, not a substitute for investigating a fault or removing significant contamination. Product suitability, concentration and system condition must be considered.
A magnetic filter can help collect magnetic debris during circulation. It needs suitable positioning and ongoing maintenance and is not a universal substitute for cleaning. Confirm whether the filter is supplied, fitted and explained at handover.
Scale reduction is a different question
Scale-related treatment on the incoming water or hot-water side is different from treating the sealed central-heating circuit. We assess the appliance, water conditions and the proposed product before recommending work.
